Professional Practice class - USW

Polly Thomas

I was asked to teach a professional practice class today at the University Of South Wales in Cardiff. The class consisted of a 2 hour talk, followed by an informal portfolio / website review session with the second year students.

My presentation featured many of my favourite photos from the past year or so from different areas of my work, covering photojournalism and press photography, PR photography, music photography, performance photography, wedding photography, as well as personal work.

Wild ponies, Brecon Beacons

Polly Thomas

Semi-wild freely roaming ponies on the Black Mountain in the Brecon Beacons. I've photographed these horses several times over the years. It's nice to recognise the same horses over and over again - the horse in the first photo I've seen at least 5 times over the last couple of years.

Stavanger, Alta, Tromsø, Flåm.

We got to see a wide variety of Norwegian landscapes, from the western fjords to the dramatic scenes in the Arctic Circle.

More photos of the northern lights in Alta, plus a timelapse video which the above gif is taken from in this blog post!

Photos and videos of the northern lights taken over a 4 hour window in the Norwegian Arctic Circle on 1st March. Alta is known as an excellent place to see the aurora borealis, as the local climate frequently leads to clear skies.
